Day 3

Sunday, August 7

A street in downtown Honolulu
In the morning, we made a quick stop at an urgent care clinic to check-up on Jerry's throat. The doctor on-call recommended a visit to an ENT, which would have to wait until the next day, so we decided to hang around Waikiki for the rest of the day.
After reading some lukewarm reviews of the Honolulu Zoo, we decided to visit the Waikiki Aquarium instead. This also turned out to be a bust. Luckily, the aquarium was so small that we got through it in less than an hour.
Waikiki Beach
We spent the rest of the day walking around Waikiki beach and checking out some of the souvenir shops, and the gazillion ABC stores that cater to tourists. We ducked into a sports bar where we had beer and mai tais with our sandwiches and watched the Red Sox take on the Yankees. We both thought it was bizzare to watch a live night game at noon, while eating lunch.
That night we had dinner on the beach, at the pricey, yet beautiful Orchids Restaurant in the Halekulani Hotel. Michelle got a very mildly flavored snapper, while Jerry, still shaken by the fish incident from the night before, stayed away from the fish, temporarily giving up 'pescetarianism' and opting for the opah and pork instead. Both dishes were good, but probably not worth the price. The highlight was the coconut cake and the Kona blend macadamia nut coffee Michelle ordered.
