Mauna Kea from the window of our plane. |
We left Reagan National Airport on Friday morning and embarked on a 12-hour flight, with a stop in Phoenix. As we neared the Hawaiian Islands, we were greeted by the awesome sight of Mauna Kea, piercing through the clouds in the middle of the Pacific.
When we finally touched down later that evening, Jerry rented a Nissan Rogue at the airport, and we were off to our hotel. When we got to our room in the Outrigger Reef on the Beach, we were stunned by the spectacular views. We had two balconies, or 'lanai', one facing downtown Honolulu and the other had an amazing view of Waikiki beach. The sun setting over the Pacific looked stunning.

After we got settled, we went to the Ocean House Restaurant, located in our hotel, for dinner. We had a beautiful view of the beach while we dined on traditional Hawaiian cusine. Michelle ordered a monchong, while Jerry had the Laulau, which consists of steamed butterfish, laulau, and rice, wrapped in a taro leaf. Delicious!
